Fascinating Presidential Quotes

We subscribe to God’s World News for our children.  This is a magazine geared toward their ages and is produced by WORLD magazine (a Christian worldview news magazine for adults; I strongly recommend this!).  A poster of presidents from George Washington to George W. Bush was included in the magazine this time and was filled with all sorts of neat trivia, such as the president’s religion, how many children he had, his careers, etc.  Each little profile ended with a famous quote this president said; this is what I want to share with you during this election time.  Enjoy:

  • (Washington)  “It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.”
  • (J. Adams) “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
  • (J.Q. Adams) “Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone.”
  • (A. Jackson) “The Bible is the rock on which this Republic rests.”
  • (Van Buren) “The less government interferes with private pursuits, the better for general prosperity.” and according to this profile, he was even a Democrat! 🙂
  • (Polk)  “There is more selfishness and less principle among members of Congress…than I had any conception of.”
  • (Coolidge) “It is only when men begin to worship that they begin to grow.”
  • (Truman)  “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.”
  • (Eisenhower) “A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.”
